Job Description

Sitec Recruitment are currently recruiting for a prestigious Engineering company who specialise in the Naval / Marine Engineering and Support Services industry and are seeking a Senior Engineer/Naval Architect to be based on Devonport Dockyard Plymouth on a contract basis for an estimated 12 months.
Principle Tasks and Responsibilities
Post Holders principle tasks and responsibilities are:
Design Function:
* Providing design support in appropriate Discipline.
* Executing duties in accordance with Company procedures for, training, health and safety, personnel, quality and project requirements.
* Preparing and checking design documentation as required.
* Authorising design documentation as directed by Supervisor.
* Preparing Design Reviews
* Representing Group and/or Department as directed by Supervisor.
* Management of design teams as assigned by Supervisor.
* Supervising, planning and controlling work to time, cost and quality.
* Providing professional engineering support to surface ship, submarine, commercial and equipment projects.
* Providing business development support across Babcock Design & Technology
* Undertake system requirements capture, concept design and modelling.
* Undertake the interpretation of a design requirement into an achievable design solution.
* Manage staff as required in accordance with company and HR policies and procedures.
* To behave at all times in a manner commensurate with that of a professional engineer.
* Manage staff as required in accordance with company and HR policies and procedures.
* Managing of Design teams involved in the preparation of Commercial tenders.
* Preparing design estimates and schedules.
* Preparing Technical Reviews in support of tender responses requiring design input.

* Acting as Project Design Manager responsible to Project Manager for Projects.
* Providing technical recommendations for selecting sub-contractors and/or suppliers.
* Providing liaison/management of technical aspects of work carried out by sub-contractors
* Liaising with Project to resolve Project issues.
* Liaising with Production to resolve manufacturing problems.

Non Nuclear:
* Business Stream Directors and their Business Development Managers providing SQEP resource where possible.
* Projects Managers - Project related issues.
* Design/Technical Managers - Design/Technical issues. Task orientated.
* Babcock International Group entities - FNC, LSC, Appledore
* Subcontractors - Supply of equipment and services
* Production/Fabricators: to resolve technical queries.
* External and internal clients for MOD and commercial tasks.

Post Holder is authorised to:
* Undertake the supervision, preparation and checking of design documentation.
* Represent Babcock in areas appropriate to experience and discipline when requested to do so.

Qualifications and Experience Requirements:
Academic: It is preferable that the post-holder has a minimum of a second class degree or comparable academic standard in an appropriate discipline and to hold or be eligible for application to hold, Chartered Engineer status via an appropriate institution. However, personnel with relevant experience may be considered suitable.

Experience: Demonstrable evidence of having worked in the field of the appropriate Discipline design, analysis and technical management at an appropriate level.
Candidates must have a background to be able to obtain UK security clearance.
