Sitec are currently recruiting for a prestigious Engineering company who specialise in the Naval/Marine Engineering and Support Industry and are seeking several Nuclear Standards Inspectors to be based on Devonport Royal Navy Dockyard Plymouth on a contract basis for an estimated 9 months initially.
The Nuclear Standards Branch (NSB) forms an important part of the Governance of Nuclear Safety Implicated work conducted on the DRDL Licenced Site. NSB acts as the independent overseer of a variety of processes and procedures to ensure the required safety and product standards are being complied with using the guidelines and instructions laid down by the Technical Authority. NSB are also the centre of excellence for Remote Visual Inspection on the Devonport site and support projects across the M&T Business.
Main Purpose of the Nuclear Standards Inspectors role:
The role of Nuclear Standards Inspector is to provide oversight of Nuclear Safety Implicated on the Nuclear Steam Raising Plant under Babcock Marine contract control work to rigorously ensure compliance with authorised documentation, cleanliness standards, the integrity of the NSRP and the working practices carried out in the Reactor Compartment. NSIs also carryout Nuclear Procedure coordination duties and support the site Nuclear Accident Response Organisation. The NSI is an ASEQP role.
Principal tasks and responsibilities of the Nuclear Standards Inspectors are:
RC Administration, (i.a.w. SBU (D)-MAN-036)
Providing independent oversight of work on the NSRP
Undertaking in-process inspections
Controlling material - suitability and compatibility, for use on the Nuclear Primary Plant
Controlling Primary Containment, (logging breaches)
Undertaking Remote Visual Inspection, (RVI) - company wide.
Co - ordination/controlling of corrosion control on Vanguard class boats.
Co-ordinating Nuclear Procedures.
Controlling Nuclear Primary Plant systems integrity, (having sole responsibility for the fitting and removal of dirt excluding bungs and plugs).
Attend meetings as NSB representative when requested.
RC Environmental control, (non-radiological).
RC Husbandry (for cleanliness and H&S).
Receipt Inspection of designated Stores.
Swabbing of Primary Plant.
Overseeing refuel and defuel activities.
Raising Deficiency Reports through Airsweb.
Maintaining daily activity Boat logs.
Carrying out 'Policing' type duties in the RC in pursuance relevant items listed above.
Checking and completion of quality documentation.
Providing advice and guidance to NSB customers regarding standards, methods and requirements for carrying out work on the NSRP.
Compliance with all company and local corporate procedures relevant to the NSI post.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Competences required of the Nuclear Standards Inspectors:
Relevant nuclear refitting support areas experience covering the equivalent of a complete LOP project or two RAMP projects, or equivalent recent relevant experience of operating nuclear plant and facilities including adherence to written systems of work and working in radiologically controlled areas.
Qualifications required of the Nuclear Standards Inspectors.
Welding Institute Standards 3 - Introduction to Welding and NDT.
Liquid Penetrant PCN level 2.
CSWIP 3.0 Weld Visuals.
NSRP Component Stain Categorisation.
BTEC Level 3 Engineering or equivalent.
Candidates MUST hold UK security clearance to SC level to be considered for these roles.
