Job Description

Our client, a commercial partner at HMNB provides specialist engineering support services, including the management of critical infrastructure and nuclear facilities.

To support the delivery of fleet engineering services our client is looking to secure the services of two Nuclear Repair Coppersmith

Rate: Available upon request, paying competitively

Duration: 4 to 12 weeks, working a minimum of 37 hours.

Successful candidates will need to undergo an MOD Security clearance. Therefore those with an SC will start much sooner.


Undertake repairs to all plant system pipework on all RN and other entitled Vessels and, when required, in other sections including the Estate.

Think of the appropriate and best way to rectify faults that may arise during the task or which they may have to investigate and or repair.

Interpret drawings, procedures, standards when manufacturing, repairing or altering any system.

Contribute to the creation of solutions for tasks that arise during manufacture, repair and defect rectification of any component

A recognised Coppersmith Apprenticeship to at least N/SVQ Level 3 or equivalent and have gained at least an NC in this field.

Experience and knowledge on the majority of the following:

HM Submarine and Ship Operating procedures
HM Submarine and Ship Tag-out procedures
Nuclear Procedures, Production Technical Instructions, Support Documentation, brazing, pipe bending procedures and processes including all relevant acceptance standards.
Interpretation of engineering drawings and schematics
To understand and complete all relevant Quality Assurance documentation
Work to Risk, COSHH assessments & safe systems of work when undertaking tasks
Non-destructive examination techniques, visual examinations of all welds and brazes, dye penetrant examination of welds, surfaces and brazes
Nuclear Reactor compartment & controlled area working
Submarine, Surface Crafts and the Estate air, fluid and steam systems
In-situ and workshop repair of component and systems, including freeze seal watchkeeping
Operation & maintenance of brazing equipment
