Job Description

Sitec are currently looking to recruit a Network Architect for a nuclear MoD establishment in Reading (private organisation). The post is an estimated 6 month contract and is paying competitively on an hourly basis.

Our client are running a major IS Modernisation Programme replacing a number of legacy IT environments and also introducing a series of new technical capabilities focussing on cloud-based services. It is key to this programme to ensure these changes are supported by appropriate network architectures, both to inform designs and decisions and to ensure the most effective choices are being made.

The Network Architect will provide technical input to several projects within the IS Modernisation Programme. Their duties will cover the production of high level and detailed network designs for these projects, technical advice and guidance for a variety of internal projects, assisting with the integration of these solutions plus importantly a carrying out a design governance role, for example design reviews and QA of third party designs.
Whilst a deep technical role, this position will also include stakeholder meetings with both internal and external service providers in which solutions are discussed and will also include the initial setup and deployment of new solutions and the transition to live services with members of the operational team whom will oversee production application and infrastructure support.

Key Accountabilities
* The Network Architect will report to the IS Modernisation Programme Architect
* The Network Architect will liaise extensively with other project architects within the Modernisation Programme.
* The Network Architect will also liaise with the IT/Infrastructure operations team
* The Network Architect will also liaise with the Application Support team
* The Network Architect will also liaise with external vendor support teams.
* The Network Architect will also liaise with internal stakeholders providing support and guidance for new projects.

Main Role & Responsibilities
* Lead the design of Network pattern solution to meet business requirements
* Create documentation around the setup and implementation of those design patterns
* Lead the implementation of Network solutions for new patterns or products
* Participate in non-functional testing, particularly around business resiliency
* Provide technical oversight, review and quality control of Network artefacts throughout the programme
* Contribute to the development of Network standards, best practices and organisational capability
* Act as an escalation point / SME for Network technical issues and decisions

* Bachelor's degree in Information Security, Computer Science or related field required or equivalent industry experience.
* Professional qualifications

Work Experience
* Broad project lifecycle experience - especially in enterprise environments
* Hands-on experience using compute, networking, storage and database services
* Understanding of network technologies as they relate to Azure Cloud services
* A good understanding of all security features and tools that Microsoft provides and how they relate to traditional services
* Hands-on experience with Network deployment and management services
* Understanding of network technologies as they relate to Azure Cloud services

Technical Skills
* Networking (TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, reverse proxies, routing, switching etc.)
* Azure Networking (VNETs, Express Route, VPN Gateway, Traffic Manager, NSGs)
* Network Security in an SECRET or above environment (Encryption Technologies, firewall configuration, IPS/IDS etc.)
* Understanding of common application approaches and technologies (e.g. SOA, message queuing)
* Understanding of common database technologies (e.g. backup/restoration, replication/mirroring)
* Understanding of common internet technologies (e.g. e-mail, web servers, web services)
* Experience designing for disaster recovery

Capabilities & Other Qualities
* Able to work independently
* Self-motivation
* Ability to set own goals and manage towards them
* Good client presentation skills

Willing and able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of security clearance necessary for the role
