Sitec Recruitment are currently recruiting for a prestigious Engineering company who specialise in the Naval / Marine Industry and are seeking an Environmental Advisor to be based on Devonport Dockyard Plymouth on a contract basis for an estimated 6 months initially.
The role of the Environmental Advisor will be:
To provide assurance in respect of environmental protection issues via a formal environmental audit and inspection programme.
To assist in the maintenance of the environmental aspects of the business, to assist in the overall management of environmental risk, including compliance with legislative and environmental management standard(s) and requirements.
Act as one of the Subject Matter Experts (SME) for environmental management at Devonport Royal Dockyard Ltd.
Principal Tasks and Responsibilities of the Environmental Advisor will be:
Monitoring compliance with relevant statutory requirements in order to avoid criminal prosecution of the Company or its representatives.
Monitoring compliance with relevant environmental management system requirements.
Carrying out the process of management system audits and inspections in order to assure compliance.
Assisting in the maintenance of all relevant non-radiological Environmental Permits, including compliance with all reporting requirements to the relevant enforcement authorities.
Participating in the development of the capabilities of the section.
Encouraging greater awareness of environmental issues across all levels within the Company.
Assisting in the investigation of relevant environmental incidents in order to help reduce the risk of recurrence.
Assisting in the monitoring of environmental training requirements across the Company, including carrying out/participating in training as appropriate.
Assisting with the delivery of the Environmental Improvement Plan and taking an active role in the Environmental Improvement Action Group (EIAG); including the necessary reporting requirements.
Environmental Advisor will be authorised to:
Stop persons working if there is a reasonable possibility of significant environmental damage or breach of statute.
Carry out site/equipment examinations and interviews whilst investigating environmental incidents/near misses/events.
Take measurements and photographs whilst investigating such events.
Qualifications and Experience Requirements:
Member or Associate Member of the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment and an EMS Auditor qualification.
2 years' experience in a multi-process industrial environment.
A working knowledge of dockyard operations.
Candidates must hold or be eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance.
