Job Description

Sitec are currently recruiting for 2 Development Engineers for our client Perkins Engines (part of the Caterpillar group) based in Peterborough.

These are contract roles for an estimated 12 months.


OVERVIEW OF THE TEAM/ COMPANY
Caterpillar Inc is the world's leading manufacturer of off-highway machinery and diesel and natural gas engines. The Caterpillar brand is recognised worldwide and is synonymous with quality and reliability.

Within Caterpillar Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD), Component Engineering are responsible for mechanical design and development of engine design for engines up to 7 litres which are used in a range of machine platforms. The successful applicant for this position will join the Component Engineering department and will take responsibility for development activities of components and systems for Caterpillar and Perkins branded engine ranges, designed and manufactured by Caterpillar's Industrial Power Systems Division.

OVERVIEW OF THE 2 ROLES:
Please note, we are recruiting for 2x Development Engineers, one at a grade 22-23; whilst the other is at grade 22-24 level.

Candidates should be experienced in performing several of the below:
* Technical project leadership of the delivery of engine components & systems.
* Development & validation of engine components and systems.
* Technical leadership for problem resolution on engine components & systems.
* Assessment of test results / data analysis.
* Component supplier management and collaboration.
* Conducting FMEA on components and systems to identify and address design risks and define validation requirements.
* Conducting component and system design reviews to obtain 'buy-in' from the business for selected components, designs and suppliers.
* Support field and production issues, diagnose issues to root cause, put in place containment actions, and develop permanent corrective actions. Work with suppliers and keep stakeholder informed of progress and decisions.

Through this role, the successful candidate will have an excellent opportunity to take part in, and have significant responsibility for, the end-to-end design & validation process for engine components and systems. This gives our employees true product ownership and the opportunity to see their products through to volume production.


EXPERIENCE:

The experience associated to both engineers should be similar, possessing a good understanding of IC engine systems; and development and validation experience of engine components.

With the roles being different level engineers, detailed below are the essential and desirable experience of both, with some slight differences.

Grade 22-23

Essential:
* Strong technical background (technical degree preferred in mechanical or automotive engineering) though other qualifications / experience will be considered.
* Good understanding of IC engine systems.
* Development / validation experience of engine components & systems.
* Proven experience of strong collaboration with component suppliers
* Ability to lead and deliver problem resolution projects for engine components or systems.
* Self-motivation and an ability to manage & deliver tasks to meet established commitments.
* Excellent communications skills & teamwork

Desirable:
* Experience of running and participating in FMEA
* Good understanding & application of APQP

Grade 22-24

Essential:
* Strong technical background (technical degree preferred in mechanical or automotive engineering) though other qualifications / experience will be considered.
* IC engine knowledge and experience (ideally diesel and off road)
* Demonstrated component ownership
- Working with suppliers
- Creating / maintaining FMEA
- Executing DVP - whole engine, rig and supplier testing
- Working knowledge of APQP
- Issue resolution
- Data analysis
* Ability to lead and deliver problem resolution projects for engine components or systems.
* Self-motivation and an ability to manage & deliver tasks to meet established commitments.
* Excellent communications skills & teamwork

Desirable:
* Experience of fuel and or air system components and or systems would be desirable but is not mandatory
