Job Description

Sitec are currently recruiting for a prestigious Engineering company who specialise in the Naval/Marine Engineering and Support Industry and are seeking a Chief Engineer to be based on Devonport Naval Dockyard Plymouth on a contract basis for an estimated 6 months initially.

Western Europe's largest naval base for more than three hundred years, engineers have been shaping the dockyard to ensure it supports the fleet and protects the nation. We need you to help continue this tradition, transforming, sustaining and improving Devonport to meet the demands of the Royal Navy for the next hundred years.
Comprising of 14 dry docks, four miles of waterfront and 25 tidal berths, Devonport is the base for numerous surface vessels as well as the base and refit centre for the Trafalgar-class nuclear-powered submarines. Devonport has also recently been selected as the base port for the Navy's new Type 26 frigates and will become the maintenance centre for the future submarine programme, including Astute and Dreadnought class

The Chief Engineer will be:

Part of the Head of Engineering's core team, you will be a key player in the Strategic Infrastructure Design Authority. The Chief Engineer and Assistant Chief Engineer will provide technical assurance on all projects.
Key duties of the Chief Engineer will be to:
*Provide technical governance for the design and safety outputs on all major infrastructure projects.
*Lead in the development of design and nuclear safety processes and standards and assure compliance in their application.
*Provide independent technical support to the Head of Engineering and support the interface with the Office for Nuclear Regulation.

Skills and qualifications required of the Chief Engineer:

*Qualified to degree level in a relevant engineering discipline.
*Chartered Engineer or CEng Fellow.
*Experienced in the design and substantiation of complex Nuclear infrastructure projects.
*Able to provide senior-level engineering leadership.
*Design of nuclear steam raising plant and substantiation of nuclear safety case Class 1 engineering.
*Working within strict regulatory environments (safety, quality and security).

Candidates must hold or be eligible to obtain UK security clearance.
