Sitec are currently looking to recruit an Engineering Team Leader for a nuclear MoD establishment in Reading. The post is for an estimated 12 month contract and is paying on an hourly basis.
Successful applicants will be required to be Security Cleared prior to appointment.
Job/Role Purpose:
Managing Engineering Solutions, the internal Multi-Discipline Engineers, IPs and Temporary Workers to deliver the agreed areas of responsibility to meet customer demands for programme, cost and SQESH.
Key Accountabilities:
- Accountable to Head of Engineering Strategy & Solutions and secondly to Head Engineering (CF) for managing a team of engineering, technical and non-technical staff to deliver agreed services. Ensuring that the following services are performed to an appropriate standard in the agreed areas of responsibility:
- Facility engineering
- Facility modification control
- Project support
- Engineering Solutions and Get Well Programmes
- Engineering Trouble Shooting and Resolutions
- "Soft Projects" where continuous improvements to processes, documentation and procedures need to be implemented.
Key Responsibilities:
Safe, Secure & Clean
- To ensure and apply responsibilities with regard to the Company’s Environment, Health, Safety, Security and Quality Standards for safe, secure and clean.
- Visibly committed to safety improvement programme, creating and maintaining a culture of zero accidents or incidents relating to occupational and personal safety, security, health issues and environmental matters.
- Communicating to employees and contractors the importance of meeting customer, statutory, regulatory and internal requirements.
- Maintaining close working arrangements with PAEs, Facility Engineers, Facility Managers and all relevant stakeholders.
Performance delivery
- Ensure provision of a focus for all engineering activities within the agreed areas of responsibility.
- Contribute, as required, to business cases and option studies and to the design, installation, commissioning and handover of modifications and to new build and decommissioning projects.
- Understanding and contributing to the Facility Safety Case/ Safety Basis / Case for Continued Operation related to engineered systems.
- Ensure that risks associated with engineering activities are assessed and appropriate checks, controls and precautions are taken.
- Directly interface with sponsors and customer organisations’ to discuss current workload and agree any future demands.
- Ensure interface with the Design Authority (Facilities and Utilities).
- Review performance to ensure early identification of variances and necessary corrective action.
- Ensure staff are provided with the support and mentoring necessary to ensure successful service delivery.
- Ensure support the Review Learn & Improve (RLI) process.
- Professionally communicate management and technical issues at presentations, in meetings and by written media.

- Work in compliance with the Demander/Supplier Model.
- Deliver the CY Financial Performance as planned.
Attainments:
Essential:
- HNC/HND in engineering discipline or equivalent work experience in relevant industry.
- Degree / Chartered Engineer.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge and working experience of Company products, structure, processes, cultures and values.
- Knowledge at the appropriate level for the role with the ability to contribute to the Company Assurance Methodologies (SQESH).
- Experience of the full spectrum of engineering activities associated with maintaining plant and facilities.
- Experience underpinning the specific features, characteristics, hazards, history (if available), configuration and management of plant or engineered systems.
- Working knowledge and experience of tools and techniques for maintaining an environment where all understand, and are committed to, providing excellent service to internal and external customers.
- Working knowledge and experience of identifying, understanding, quantifying, de-conflicting and controlling hazards and risks.
- Working knowledge and experience of specific policies and practices for planning and administration of budget.
- Working experience at an operation level through management of a Safe System of Work (SSoW).
- Working experience of quality management methods, tools and techniques used to create and support an environment that meets the needs of the organisation.
Experience:
- Working experience of design engineering from specification through to selection, including knowledge and ability in related processes, tools and approaches.
- Ability to plan, organize, monitor and control projects ensuring sufficient technical and administrative resources.
- Working knowledge of the specific features, processes, hazards, configuration and management of a facility.
- Experience in the understanding of scheduled activities associated with Work Control Centres.
- Ability to contribute experience to the configuration management and change control of product, plans, projects, programmes, specifications, plant, facilities, documentation, etc.
- Experience at a practical level of applying process tools and techniques associated with delivering a fully functioning Safety Management System.
- Ability to understand internal and external customers’ needs and expectations, provides excellent service in direct and indirect manner, and fulfil customer expectations.
Aptitudes and Skills:
- Skilled to effectively manage the utilization of external services (e.g., product or platform vendors, service providers, contractors, consultants, outsourced functions).
- Skilled to construct and promote a business case in support of business decision making.
- Working experience of collecting, analyzing and using technical data to contribute to the making of engineering and technical decisions.
- Able to communicate effectively at all levels with good written and oral skills.
- Capable of managing multiple concurrent tasks, whilst maintaining effective judgment in prioritizing and time allocation.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel).

- Able to make logical systematic and rational judgments based on relevant information to secure best solutions knowing when to escalate issues to line management.
- Ability to influence and persuade others in order to contribute to decisions made within the Company that may impact on WCC operations.
